I participated in a Sugar Detox over at mommyrunfast.com last week. It started with a 1 hour seminar that was jam packed with information. So so much information that I couldn't write fast enough. My favorite info was on why we get cravings and what to do to overcome those cravings. After the seminar was over, we also received recipes, and more information.
Following the seminar was a 7 day sugar detox. I talked Tom into doing it with me and we were strict. The only sugar we ate came from fruit. We pretty much cut out anything processed as well. Tom really missed his Cheerios. I missed, well, sugar!
This is what I learned:
- I had a lot of added sugar in my diet that was hidden
- I crave sugar around 3pm every day
- I was less hungry with sugar out of my diet
- Way more fun to do it with my husband than myself
We felt so good after 7 days, that we decided to keep going. Sugar has come up here and there, but for the most part, we feel better without a lot of it. I still crave it, but I feel much more in control of those cravings. If I eat sugar, it is a very conscious decision that I make.
