Body After Baby: 12 Weeks

I am now a Post Natal Boot Camp Graduate!  After 6 weeks, I am down 8 pounds.  The thing I've noticed is that this program is very easy to follow and I just didn't miss days.  I do switch some of them up for a good run - it is still hard for me to feel like I got a good work out in without the treadmill.  I'm learning and adjusting though.  I know strength training is just as important - probably more so for me right now.  I just love a good run and the sweat I get!
 Here are some facts:

  • During pregnancy, I gained almost 50 pounds!  Yikes (I can't believe I just let everyone know that).
  • When J. was six weeks old, I had 20 pounds still left to lose.
  • Yes, that means I would still like to lose 12 more pounds.
  • I am 36 years old, 5'9", and have had four babies.  This is so much more work in my late 30s than it was in my 20s.
  • My husband has been working about 16 hours/day, 6 days/week for the past 4 weeks and it is not going to let up for a couple more weeks.  All four kids are with me all day right now.  I am not hiring a sitter to come over and watch them while I work out.  I do pay my 10 year old though.
  • I don't have a gym membership or a home gym to work out in. I do not have a personal trainer or professional training. Just some simple tools and about 40 minutes/day.  I'm just a mom - like most of you!
  • For me, weight loss is SO much more about what I eat!

I've started the 60 Day Slim Down, which is supposed to help me loose 10 -15 pounds.  Just what I'm looking for.

So now, this is what I'm doing and it seems to be working.  Slowly, but surely.  That's good, right?  I'd love to share what I am learning, I'm just not sure what you want.  Ask any questions you might have in the comments section and I'll be able to write better posts in the future.

Ask away!

I am working with moms into fitness for this weight loss journey.  They have provided many many resources for me.  They have not provided my opinions, however.  Those are all mine.

I have to tell you when you first posted about this program and checked it out. Obviously since I am not a mom nor pregnant I wasn't ready to jump in but it was a final factor in deciding that I wanted to start working out at home. So I ordered the Insanity workout and have stopped going to the gym for a little while. It is amazing how much more time I have by not driving to the gym and how much more flexible my days are when I don't have to be at a certain class at a certain time. And I have also learned, like you said, it is more about what I eat. And I was pretty much working out to eat. All this to say, the last few months have been a huge transformation for me in letting go of some unhealthy guilt issues and boundaries I was having with food and working out and your post on your program played a small piece in getting me here. So thank you for sharing and I am bookmarking that website for when I do become a mom! You look great Laurel...and always, it is inspiring for me to see how a normal everyday mom can still make time for herself! xo

oh, and it also helps with having my nephew around. I can workout when he naps...or we can go on a hike, and I don't have to work out! So freeing...and such a good lesson now that I will be OKAY when I have kids...I don't have to lose myself...or my body. I can work out with a baby latched to my side! This is something I have been so scared about. And I am thankful I am being freed from these insecurities in preparation for when the time comes to be a mom!

Sorry - I guess my posts got mixed up. This looks like a great program and you look awesome. I think I'll try the trial. I've lost almost 40 lbs since my pregnancy, so 15 below prepregnancy. Unfortunately, I was overweight so I still have about 30 to go! Yikes! Defintely needed this post. Have been doing c25k but I ned something for toning.

Good for you! You look great. I need to find a workout program. I am not a gym person. Hitting 40 (4 years ago Wednesday) has not been fun.

You look so good! I'm going to keep this in mind. I'm due in 5.5 weeks and will definitely need a good workout plan once our peanut arrives!

My little guy is 6 weeks and I just started working out at home again. Do you know anything about working out, calorie intake and milk supply? My doctor said the minimum # of calories I need to eat is 1800. I started tracking my calories on lose it.com. What I didn't ask him is if I burn 500 working out and 500 nursing, is it ok to only net 800 when nursing?!?
