Organizing Tip - Snack Bin

My kids need to bring a snack every day to school, and like every good mother, I make my kids responsible for getting their own snack.

To make it easier, we have a snack bin.  I throw away most of the containers that snacks come in.  I dump the granola bars straight in the bin, I put the applesauce cups in the bin.

What isn't already individually wrapped, I wrap for them.  I buy a lot at Costco.  When I get home, I separate them into snack size bags and throw those in the bin.

When it is time to go out the door, my kids just reach in the bin and grab a snack!  Plus, if you knew my G., you would know that he is a walking mess.  I'd rather put the pretzels in the bag, then have G.  I guarantee that half would be on the floor!

Just a little tip that makes getting out the door so much easier!

I have had a snack basket for years. If I don't I find empty boxes in the cabinet. I shove an extra granola bar in their bag just in case of emergencies. Yours looks much more organized than mine. lol...

I do this, too! Plus I have a bin in the fridge for cold snacks & lunchbox items. Just started them when school started, but wondered why I didn't try it earlier. The children love choosing their own snack!

I do this too...but I don't have kids. It is just for us- my friends think that is odd. But it helps me with portion control (if I have to open two ziplock bags to have 4 cookies I won't do it, but out of the whole package- no problem). And it makes packing lunchs faster.

I love this idea! We've also been following your idea for certain breakfasts on certain days and it has made our school mornings SO much easier! Keep the great ideas coming!

I don't have kiddos, but I think this would be handy for Ryan and I. I'm terrible about getting a snack from the vendo, so this could make me cut that expense. I would like to try to do this for fruits and veggies, too. Thanks for the tip.

This is beautiful! I used to be good about snack baggies back a couple of years ago when I lost quite a bit of weight. Thank you for the great reminder to get on that again! So easy to grab and go...and of course, portion control!

I also have a snack bin in the freezer for home baked good. Muffins, slices of banana bread and homemade granola bars.

I have had a snack drawer for my step kids for a couple of years now. I also dump all of the boxes to save room and have individual portions bagged up.
They love being in control of their snacks and how easy it is. It also helps me help them to be independent when packing their lunch boxes for school!!!!
Best idea ever!
