I come up with the most catching titles, don't I? That one just grabbed you I'm sure. Anyways. . . .
This summer, while in Breckenridge, I happened upon the cutest dish towel. I searched through the bin and asked the lady if I could search the back. I loved them so much I wanted to give them as Christmas gifts. I only came up with Colorado and Arizona, though.
It had a map of the state I love. I was charmed.
There was the cutest ric rac trim and darling stripes going down both sides. But there was a problem. If I actually hung this up in my kitchen, then people would use it. If they used it, I'm sure it would get ruined. Sad fact, but true. I liked this too much to watch it get ruined.
Here is the pouch this came in. Just so I remember and can hopefully track down some more states.
Anyways, I cut off the adorable trim and it's saved for another project. I turned this into a pillow and added black piping around the edges. It is sitting on my entry bench where wet hands will not get wiped on it. I saw something similar on Young House Love as a giveaway lately and love the idea of getting each state of where we have lived (why did I give the AZ one to my sister?) I am now on the lookout for a California, a Utah, an Arizona, and a Washington (I know, we technically haven't lived there as a family but I'm still counting it!) It might take another trip to Breckenridge, but I'll probably just google them and see what I find - which I haven't taken the time to do yet.
Doesn't it just make you love Colorado?

Love it! I have seen embroidered state pillows, but they tend to be really expensive!!
I LOVE this project! I have long wanted one of those State or "destination" pillows, but yeah, they are pricey. Now I'm off to Cat Studios to check out the items. Thanks for this information and a wonderful, informative post.
Wow! This is so cute! I moved to Florida from Colorado nearly 8 years ago, and I miss it so much! I'd go back in a heartbeat if only my husband would agree...but he won't :0( I think I'll see if I can find one of those for myself!
great idea....have you seen these? Fell in love with them hanging on a wall in the movie "Julie and Julia"..I bet you could do the same? In the movie they were framed.

I totally love this! I am now going to be on the lookout for California also. :)
Love this! My mom has the Colorado pillow (sold in pillow form) and I've always wanted one of Maine from my time there. I didn't even know the company made dishtowels -sounds like it could be much more cost effective then buying their ready made pillows!
I love it!! What a great idea to have one for each state you guys have lived in. I like the cute cowboy. :)
super cute!!!
uncommongoods.com has both the towels and the pillows, but they tend to be a bit pricey. Lurve yours though! :)
I just found your blog and am in love! What an adorable idea! I just turned a dish towel into a canvas wrap on my wall.
LOVE this. I used an old corn feed bag from Nebraska to make a pillow for a chair in my kitchen. I think it is a wonderful way to remember the places we love!
Gosh I have some of those exact dish towels (in different states) and the napkins! I never thought about making them into pillows. You can buy those in pillows but they are sooooo expensive!
LOVE this. What a find! Did you see the more-than-$100 versions on YHL the other day? Yours is amazing.`
Love it! I saw the same thing you saw on YHL and it made me really want some map deco. We love historic maps, but this is such a quirky way to celebrate a place. Great idea, towel to pillow. I have got to master my sewing machine!
Oh you know I already LOVE Colorado. What a great find. Charming indeed!
I love those but never found the pillow or dish towels at a decent price. Thanks for the sharing the company.
OMG. I just bought a AZ one at a thrift store, and was woundering what I was going to do with it. Now I know! I'm now following you, hope you'll come by and follow back.
That turned out awesome! I have a state tea towel and I turned it into a wall hanging. Check it out! They are just too cute to be dish towels!

i need to put up my post about all of your gifts.
they're pretty amazing.
thanks sister.
xox
They sell these at "uncommon goods" on the net. They also sell the pillows for about a zillion dollars too!
Here is the link that I looked up -- http://www.uncommongoods.com/product/state-dish-towels. Make lots of pillows!!!
ah that is so great! you are uber creative chick~ love love how it turned out:)
that looks so great! i need to figure out how to sew - i love this dishtowel/pillow transformation i keep seeing!
i have that same towel - but the GA one. my mom gave it to me and i love it! it was too pretty to actually use as a dishtowel, so i might try the pillow method!
That's a great idea!! I never want to actually use those cute dish towels, so I don't ever buy them. What a great way to show them off and make sure people don't wipe their grubby hands on them. :)
P.S. Feel free to stop by my blog and enter my giveaway this week! :)
