Graham Cracker Haunted Houses

The kids are on fall break - and this was a perfect activity to keep them busy for the day.  After searching at 4 different stores for chocolate graham crackers, we finally found them and hot glued them together.  I kept having to tell I. that the crooked ones make great haunted houses.  She has a little bit of perfectionist in her - which I know she gets from her daddy.

A houseful of kids, tubs of chocolate frosting and unlimited Halloween candy.
While this house may not be the prettiest - it is G.'s house to a tee.  And, he will tell you he did it all by himself without mommy's help (could you tell?)

M. had a thing for pumpkins this year - she eventually gave up on the frosting and just started piling.

I's house - in the very early stages.

We had fun doing this - a lot of fun!

When Daddy got home that night, each child explained all the details about their house.  Poor Tom was rubbing his eyes and trying to stay focused and excited for them, but they showed every single detail!  They have spent the morning staring at them and trying to figure out how to make it spookier.  Wish I had made a house for me to decorate - I could have a lot of fun with this.

Splendid little dwellings, each one of them! Now this is a culinary project even I can handle. Then I would explain to Tom why I had to add a wraparound porch, French doors, and hanging lanterns flanking the front door......put on a pot of coffee, L, he'll need it. =]

And how perfect are those tiny pumpkin candies?! You're brilliant.

Oh, the memories this brings back of my own little munchkins! I also did it once for my Achievement Day girls and we called the "friendship houses." We had the activity based on making a solid base for a friendship and being a true friend. We used stiff frosting though and called it gossip when the houses fell apart (I may or may not have shaken the table to make all the houses fall apart). Years later one of the girls told me that they used to laugh when someone tried to gossip and say something like "don't say it or your house will fall down!" It was a silly little reminder in their own way to not gossip! Love it! Loved the calling too! It was the best calling I've ever had in my church!

We'd made up names for the candies too and called them loyalty, kindness, giggles, etc., all the things that made up a friendship. It was a fun day!

These are so fun. I just love it when kids "go at" a project, feeling excited and creative. Love it!
