In April, I declared my goal of making a slipcover for this love seat. April - that was 4 and a half months ago! I finally finished and am so proud of myself - lots of pictures are coming!!
Before:
After:
I finally finished. With every seam, I pinned, then basted, then dragged it back to the loveseat to see if it worked, then stitched it, trimmed the seams and finished the edges. Over and over, back and forth from the couch to my sewing machine.
My goal was to do one seam a day. That doesn't seem like much, but it was attainable (most days).
The piping totally makes it. I bought cording and cut fabric strips on the bias to cover it. Totally worth it.
Oh yes, I did sew zippers on the back sides! Don't you just want to trim that little thread?
So many details.
It turned out exactly how I planned. I even impressed Tom. We were walking through PB and I showed him an example of the slipcover I was aiming for. He said "Do you really think you can do this? And make it look like this? Cause I think that looks pretty cool if you can do it."
I got the loveseat from a friend who was looking to get rid of it. We traded some monogramming for the couch - I still think I owe her more, but she assures me she is happy with the transaction. I spent $70 for the fabric and $5 for the cording. There is probably 1 1/2 yards left over.
Pottery Barn's version (which is a couch, not a love seat) is $879! Mine totalled $75.
I have the perfect spot for it - in our office between the bookshelves. It fits perfectly, but the molding isn't up yet so it sits on our Master Bedroom until we get to it. Meanwhile, I'm planning on making my second slipcover for the wingchair I showed Friday and today I've been staring at our living room couch wondering . . .

Great job. That looks AMAZING!!
ABSOLUTELY A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.! I am so impressed...and envious....wish I could do that!
I chuckled to myself when I read that you have had it since April and just finished because I have lived in my house since March and I have exactly 6 things hanging on my walls, not one window treatment up and I still haven't found the box with the shower curtains. My boys just have a liner up. And - I am totally okay with it. I would never even consider making my own slip cover, I am totally impressed!
Laurel it's absolutely perfect! I love the pleating around the arms, and you're right, the piping makes the sofa. I am incredibly impressed.
Wow Laurel! This is total perfection.
Laurel, you did an awesome job on this slipcover! I agree the piping really finishes it off. And I am applauding you over here with zippers on the back. I would so chicken out and do velcro
It looks fantastic Laurel! I'm in awe of your sewing skills!
I. love. it. It looks like you brought it straight home from the store. Wow!

Holy schmoly. I would love to do the same for our loveseat...now to get up the gumption.
That turned out exactly how I am dreaming mine will, one of these days! Beautiful job! I have the 2 cushion "Charleston" look alike sofa in blue denim and I want a white one sooooo bad. Patience really is a virtue...

Wow that is amazing! Just this week the idea of slipcovering our couch and loveseat popped into my head and I can't seem to shake it! Would you think about doing a tutorial? Great job, seriously it's gorgeous!

Wow. the first time i visited your blog you announced this project. It looks absolutely amazing... Do you want to make one for my couch?
A zipper? FAB.U.LOUS. What an amazing job you did! I love it! and I especially love the price as compared to PB! Can't wait to see your sofa slip;0)
wow. just-WOW!!
Fantastic job! I remember doing my sofa slipcover. It is quite an accomplishment. I hope you are kicking up your feet and enjoying it!
You did a fabulous job! I have the same job on my to-do list, only it's a loveseat and a chair. I wish I were done and that they looked this good.
Love it! I have made several slipcovers, but yours looks professional, especially with the zippers. I like how you took your time and I think that is reflected in the great result. I need to learn to sloooow down.
You SEWED that?? I have such respect for anyone who can attempt something this intimidating! It's beautiful! Well done!
You did one of the nicest jobs I have seen. Taking the time made yours perfect. So will you give advise when I attempt one?
Hugs
Becky
Wow! I'm impressed, it looks great! My mom and I recently did a similar slipcover for my couch... you're right it is a LOT of work... back and forth... sewing machine to couch! I love the zippers you put in the back, great idea... we put a pleat in the center back so it would have some more "give" when putting it on and taking it off.

It's like you've earned your blogger's master's degree! The slipcover looks amazing~you really did a professional job!
Wow, the slipcover is AMAZING! You did such a wonderful job on it, and it looks perfect and every bit as good as the PB version, too! :)
I LOVE slipcovers!!! I just wrote about slipcovers this week: http://cottagebluedesigns.blogspot.com/
I am super duper impressed that you sewed that slipcover yourself! I have attempted to do it and it is very difficult! I am now resigned to making ottoman slipcovers- that I can do! :)
Have a wonderful day- Megan
This looks so great. Any tips or tricks for how to do it? I've been meaning to slipcover my sofa for longer than I care to admit, but I'm so intimidated to tackle such a big project.
A.MAZING! Great Job!
What kind of fabric did you use? "Cotton duck"? Canvas? (Maybe they're the same thing) How wide (selvedge to selvedge) was the fabric you used?
Are they made from cotton twill? Thanks.
They are made of canvas twill - 54" wide.
