In our religion, children are baptized at the age of 8. Our oldest turns 8 next month and I was hoping to have a special dress for her. Tom and I are picky about the clothing our children wear, and I knew that buying this dress that fit our standards would be next to impossible. So, after a fun evening with I., we came home with some ideas and fabric. I started sewing.
I.'s primary teacher wanted to take some pictures of her at the temple, so I had a little motivation to get it done. I didn't quite finish it in time, though. The sash is just safety pinned on for these pictures and the detailing of the sleeves isn't quite finished.
This dress fits my girl, to a tee. She's still a little girl and she is happy there - phew, my mommy heart couldn't handle it if she wanted to grow up to fast.
Thanks Michelle for the great pictures!

Gorgeous, what a beautiful job you did, and a beautiful girl. They do grow up so fast, I look at pictures of Isabella just a year or so ago and can't believe the changes. But what a delight, at every age there is something special to enjoy! Janell
Oh the dress is beautiful and so is your daughter :)
Wow, I can't believe she's 8! Nick isn't until December, so I still have a little while. I hope everything goes perfectly!
What a gorgeous girl (and dress)! I love the pink accents...this is something I'll have to think about when Anna turns eight next year.
Her dress is beautiful! I love that it's not 100% white. I also love that it didn't cost you $150. That seems to be the going rate around here from what I've heard..,the dresses look like miniature wedding dresses...it's crazy.
Your daughter looks so sweet. I hope she felt great wearing her new dress!
She is so pretty! Love her!
Beautiful! You did a great job!!
Do you have your kids baptized in the top white dress if the red sash and netting is removable? I always had my kids baptized in the jumpsuits and then they had their special outfits to be confirmed in but I have friends who had them baptized in white dresses. Just curious. It turned out really cute too. We'd have never known the sash was just pinned on i you hadn't told us, lol!
The dress looks great. Love the pink. What a great idea to take her pictures at the temple. She's beautiful!
She is so beautiful and you did a fantastic job on the dress, even if it isn't finished!
I am not LDS but I am a conservative Christian, and my daughters of 12 and 14 are even harder to dress (just WAIT til yours get to that age!). Your daughter looks beautiful, and the dress is beautiful. P.S. I have found a lot of LDS clothing vendors online...
Hi Laurel! Your daughter is absolutely adorable and what a beautiful dress for her! I really admire parents who emphasize age-appropriate clothes for their kids. I also wanted to give you a big thanks for stopping by and commenting on my headboard project! I so appreciate comments and positive feedback (especially when I don't know what I'm doing!) :)
She looks so much like you!
She looks lovely, and you did a great job on the dress! :) Love the pink!
