HOWEVER, I do get a little cranky when our home gets too messy and I'm the only one who seems to care. I. starts an average of 5 different art projects a day; G. just looks at his closet and 5 shirts jump off the hangers and on the floor (the hangers end up there, too), and M. is 2 - enough said.
With the success of the Technology Tickets, I started thinking of a new system to get us through this summer. Something quick, something easy, something that didn't have a lot of monitoring on my side. . .
This is what I came up with:
We have a jar of Popsicle sticks. G's have a red tip, I's have a purple tip.
They each have 8 responsibilities (which might increase, but I wanted to start out slow to ensure success on all parts). When they have completed the task, they flip over the stick so the color is at the bottom.
At the end of the day, they receive points: 2 pts if they get everything done, 1 pt. if they flip over 5, 0 pts if they do 4 or less. We keep track of the points with tally marks. They combine points and turn them in for rewards, which are written on a chalkboard in the playroom.
I love when I don't have to be the bad guy - either they do it or they don't; either they have enough points of they don't. We've done it for a week and they've done OK. They didn't receive any points yesterday and had more to clean up today, but that's life, isn't it?

Are the points used once? Meaning if they sleep in each others room do they still have to get 25 more before they get lunch out? Sounds like a great idea.
I had to start something like this w/our 4 year old. The house is just too messy over the summer!
i like how simple and easy this is for THEM to understand. it isn't arbitrary-they either did the chore or they didn't. nice.
thanks for stopping by the cape on the corner, and for your input on my hall table and wall art. i appreciate your feedback!!
cute idea! & thanks for visiting and the sweet compliment - i just love frugal fridays, don't you? :)
Love it! We do something very similar and it sure helps with keeping a bit of structure to our summer days. And I couldn't agree with you more about the running clothes, that's a normal thing in the summer for me too!
this is a great idea girly! I need to start something like this~
I love this idea, and I see your little buckets. :) I kindof can't wait until my kids are old enough to do more chores. I do need to get something more in order for my 4 yr. old though. He could do more than I require of him.
This is a great idea. I like that they are responsible for themselves and you don't have to chase them all day to do their things. I'm all about rewards for incentives. Great idea, thanks for sharing!
A good system!! Hope they stay on track and get to redeem lots of points. :)
Good idea, I like it! I like to keep my home tidy and do also get cranky when everyone else living here just mess up and skip the clean up... Yes, that can sometimes include my hubby... :-D
Maybe this could work for my kids as well. :-)
Great idea. I love coming up with behavior plans for my students- when they are simple and work that is.
This is a fantastic idea! We really need something like this! Thanks for sharing!

have a great week, stay cool if it's as hot where you are as it is where I am!
Great idea! I'm a new follower over here.
Hi Laurel - What a great idea! I know I would have loved this as a kid. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

Came over after you commented on my cricut post and I found this...I love it! We still have a few more days of school but I'm going to implement something like this for summer
Thanks again for the idea. I ended up going with something even simpler (http://metromom2008.blogspot.com/2010/06/summer-jobs.html) but this post is what gave me the push/idea/motivation to come up with a system -- so thanks again!
