Organizing My Fabric

Prepare to be uninspired. I've seen craft spaces that are awesome, and mine is not. I like to sew, and I like to organize, and often the 2 do not mix. I have had several emails wondering how I organize all my fabrics, though, so I'll show you what I've got.

I keep all my supplies in our basement - but my sewing machine is on our landing upstairs. Not ideal, but I make it work for now.

I sort my fabric by color and keep them in plastic bins (what a shock!). My kids play in this basement, so do their friends, and I don't police this area. The bins keep them contained, and little fingers away. I put all types of fabric, just sort by colors.

On the top of these cubbies I have buckets. The big one holds scraps. The great Target Dollar Spot bins hold works-in-progress, and at the end is a bin which holds extras to monogram (onesies, bags, pillowcases . . .)

This works great for us. I can hardly keep my oldest daughter out of them. She can dream faster than I can create - isn't that always the case.

I'll leave you with photos of Martha's craft room . . . a girl can dream, right?

I like your space, and I can't imagine keeping Martha's fabric folded that neatly. And I'm wondering what your plan is for all those jeans pockets!

I cleaned out our Target of those metal buckets...they're awesome for everything!

I love to dream! I think your space is very functional which is what is really important. I also LOVE those Target buckets and have a few.

I'm addicted to fabric. You're smart to store it that way when there are energetic "little" people that play in the same area. Happy New Year!

I thin your craft space looks great. It IS very organized. You can find everything you need, yes? That's the definition of organized.

And Martha's room looks like that bc she pays people to keep it that way. If you had thousands of employees, you'd have the same thing. You're doing great and I love being able to peek into your workspace!

You would die if you saw my craft closet. I am the anti-Martha when it comes to organization. Hey! I did make a command center based on your detailed "how-to" a while back!

I've never seen Martha's craft room before... the green is lovely!

Why did I never learn how to sew?! I'm envious of all your projects!

Don't be surprised....to me it's very inspiring. My knitting is stuffed in bags behind furniture in my room and my material is in bags in the attic. I know I can do this!!!...lol. Martha's space is to die for...wonder if I'd give my dh a heart attack if I told him I'd like him to do that to our attic.

I love looking at awesome craft spaces for like 2 minutes, and then I just feel annoyed and jealous. Your system seems smart, I like the bucket of scraps. All my fabric is stuff in a big drawer and I have pull everything out to find a single piece.
