This is my third child. I call her M. here on this blog. Don't let the sweetness of her chubby cheeks fool you - this girl has an attitude. Actually, she has an ATTITUDE! She's giving me a run for my money, that's for sure.

She has an intense desire to be in control, partnered with extreme will power that she gets from her father. This month, she has given up sleeping in her crib and now sleeps on a couch in our room until we get around to buying her a bed. She has given up naps, even though she's been taking naps on her sister's bed for over a year without ever getting off. She has decided that diapers are not for her and instead of learning to go on the potty, she has just held it - for over 8 hours.

What does this have to do with being grateful? Well, after the past week that I've had with this one (oh, I forgot to mention that my hubby was out of town on business), there's not much I think is good going on. I am grateful for this habit because it forces me to be positive when I really don't feel like it. I could stay in this rotten mood for awhile and I'm going to be honest - it kind of feels good, or I could choose to be grateful. I choose the latter. The list may be small, and superficial - but it's a start.
I am grateful for:
- A Little Caesars opened just a little down the road. Hooray for $5 pizza!
- My hubby came home from his business trip three days early - an answer to my prayers, I am sure.
- My treadmill in the basement and my 5am runs with it.
- A new week starts today - and with it a new hope for some better days ahead.
Sorry to be such a downer on this post. Life doesn't always go as planned around these parts and I would feel so fake pretending we don't have our difficult days. No need to be worried, or anything - I'm fine. Sometimes mothering really takes it out of you - do you know what I mean?

Some days you're the windshield. Other days you're the bug.
I'm sorry she is giving you are rough time. I'm sure later in life it will help her do great things.
Yes, I know exactly what you mean...
Oh Laurel - I am SO glad you posted this! I had to leave early from church, just having brought my almost 2 yr old Lauren home because she was such a beast (yes, an animal) during Sacrament. My boys are rough and tumble but this bundle of pink has me throwing my arms up in despair more often than not. My mantra? "I prayed for her, I prayed for her, I prayed for her!" She is teaching me patience for sure! I'm sorry you are having a rough day, but I am grateful to know there are others out there having them!
I do know exactly what you mean!
Not every week can be perfect. I'm amazed at all you do, especially those 5 a.m. runs !!
I totally understand. My hubby has been gone since Dec 9 and won't be back till mid July. I am at wits end most days but just trudge on. Today I told my teenager that I needed some adult conversation - he kept the 6 and 4 year old while I went across the street to just talk to an adult. It was heaven. Enough to get me through the next week.
Thank goodness tomorrow is Monday - a new week.

You are not a downer! you are a mother of 3 beautiful children and being real!! It must have something to do with #3, because our #3 could and sometimes thinks she is the #1!! We call her our wild card!!
Yes...I do know what you mean! It can be very exhausting...both physically and mentally! :)
That last pic of your daughter is just adorable!
Oh yes, even when the kids leave the nest sometimes mothering still takes it all out of you, but on the other hand those good days more than make up for it! I store some extra hugs up on good days to remember on the bad days. It keeps my life bearable and yes, even joyful!
What adorable little kiddos!
Oh my word, I hear ya, my 3 year old has too much sass for her own good!
Yay for Little "seizures"! One just opened in our town too. :)

5 am runs? Now that's motivation!!
Man that sounds like how life is over here...which may be why I like your grateful sunday posts. Hang in there, dad's back, this week will be better.
I totally don't know you and just started looking at your blog a few days ago, but this post made me chuckle because it is so familiar. My third daughter, whose name starts with m and has the chubbiest, squishiest cheeks, is just like her. They look about the same age too. She has given up the naps, won't do a crib, is so strong-willed and independent, taking off her diapers and getting on the potty herself :) There are plenty of times I remind myself that her strong spirit will serve her well when she is older. I'm glad I'm not the only one out there with a child who leaves them sitting in wonder lots of times :)
She is super cute! Why not spend the money to buy her an actual bed first instead of spending that money on bookshelves? Little Ceasars pizza for $5 - I thought it was a sweet deal too until my family tried it one night and it felt like we were chewing on plastic.
