I am stuck on ideas. I probably have about 4-5 unfinished projects. But today . . . I've got nothing. I started walking around the house. My fall mantle? No . . I don't think that hole in the wall over my fireplace really counts as a mantle. Halloween decor? No . . . nothing original there. Pictures of my unfinished stuff? No. . . I don't want to. A backyard update? No . . . it's too cold to go out and take pictures right now. Finally my growth chart caught my eye.

This is one of my favorite things. My husband made it for me for my birthday several years ago and I love it. It also catches any one's eye that I feel comfortable enough to let them go upstairs.

Tom used a Dremmel and because he is an engineer and a perfectionist at that - I have no doubt that the inches are perfectly placed. I love that it fits our style perfectly - very kid friendly, but subtle.

We've marked where we have lived at the bottom. It's one of the birthday traditions to get marked every year, oh and then not only compare yourself to last year, but also to you little brother and sister and state how you will always be the tallest. Well, maybe that's just I.'s tradition. With every one's birthday, not just her own.

It hangs with 2 eye hooks (is that what they're called) screwed in and picture wire strung back and forth. It's getting filled up quicker than I hoped. Those kiddos don't stay little for too long.

That is so cute and what a great idea!
It's so true--wish I could freeze time!
Cute!!
We have a similar thing on the laundry room wall (yes directly on the wall) I have been wanting to paint in there but it will be soo hard to cover it all up. 13 years of names and hash marks for each daughters height.
So sweet!
We need one of those around here too! Hmmm
love that!
I like that simple idea!! Our is on a closet wall...can't take THAT with us.
I LOVE this! Always wanted something to mark the kids growth and never thought of something you could remove and take with you if you were to move! Thanks for sharing.
That is great! I love that you can take it with you if you ever move. We are making some kind of similar for a craft day in our church next month. Such a great idea!

Love the dremmel idea! I've always loved the ones at Land of Nod and thought I would make one before I spent that much. I think I'll have to get my husband involved now...
Oh, I love that. Can I cheat and transfer the marks from the ones I already have?
Love the idea! I wrote it on the wall of our last house and then they repainted it when we moved. I also love that your daughters room looks alot like my daughters room - the unmade bed makes us all more human :)
That is just too too cute!

I think this is just too cute! What a great idea!
I love the fact it can go with you. My oldest is now shorter than his little brother! It was quite a day when brother #2 passed brother #1. #2 s 6'1" and #1 is about 5'10" (they're ages 24 for #1 and 19 for #2). Cindy
I love the growth chart.
We, unwisely, charted the girls' growth directly on the inside of a door frame. Then we sold the house!!! Boo Hoo!

That is such an awesome idea! My sister started doing one on her wall in her laundry room. Over the years the room needed to be painted so she just skipped that little area. I think your idea just rocks because you will never have that problem and if you move....just take it along with ya! Love love love it~
This is such a cute idea, this will create lots of great memories.
Thanks for joining my blog! Make sure you enter to win the giveaway!! Lovely blog you have yourself :) The pumpkin granola looks amazing!

Can you imagine that someday you will even have grandchildren's heights on there! What a great family tradition!

What an awesome idea and can follow you wherever you go!
What a wonderful idea.Like a few people that have commented,I have mine written on the actual wall. I would love to take this idea and create a chart that we can take with us when we leave. (If we ever decide to move) Thank you for offering up such inspiration :)
Neat idea. I love personal touches in a home.
Such a sweet thing to have on your wall. They do grow up too quickly, but that will be a treasured item for always!
You know what the best part about this is? You can take it with you when you move again. I always wondered about growth charts that you have to leave behind with the house.
Hey there, wanted to stop back by and tell you I gave you an award!
Very cute - I love it!
So simple I LOVE it! Our Grandmother has a red wall with measurements from when my dad and uncles were kids. It is a treasure for sure! I always wanted to do one but never found a place in my house where I would want it.

I love this!!! We had a growth chart in our pantry growing up and my parents ended up cutting it out when they moved. Much easier to do it your way.

Great idea!
Oh! I love this. We mark our girls height on the door frame of the laundry room...but I would love to have something like this. Love your blog!
This is wonderful. My Dad has a "chart" like this inside a door frame at his house. When we visit I am always curious to see how much the kids have grown!
Have a great one...Janell
That is so SPECIAL of your husband to do that. I LOVE traditions too, so this is perfect.
Hi Laurel,
Just stopping by to thank you for your comment on my blog - you have a great blog too! Love the measuring stick idea. We move every couple of years, so this would be perfect for our family.
I absolutely love this ! And if you were to ever move, it comes with you. What a great momento of your family.
That is very cool. We had a little one, that had peter rabbit on it, when I was a kid. My sister and I love to look back at it. Yours is much cooler. And what a great idea to list where you've lived!
I LOVE THIS!!! I have a 19 month old boy and I never bought anything because I didnt know what I wanted AND I didn't want to mark it in a room and move one day and not be able to take it with us! Thanks!
