I organize my books by color:

It is WAY easier for my kids to sort by color than any other book sorting method. Even M. can tell most colors. If we are looking for a specific book, the kids usually know what the cover looks like and we can find it quickly. Plus, it's prettier.

But, I'm in good company. Look at Kevin Sharkey's office (he's a big wig with Martha Stewart. His actual title is executive editorial director for decorating):

These are just some of the kid's books. I talk about other ways I organize them here. All the grown up books are in boxes in the basement awaiting the floor to ceiling bookshelves that I've gotta sweet talk my hubby into building.

I realize that most of you probably just put books on the shelves and call it good. I realize that my dad is probably rolling his eyes at this post.

Yeah - it's finally Friday!

I can pretty much guarantee that I will never have my life together enough to organize books at all, let alone by color. But I'm really enjoying looking at your pretty shelves.
Hey! Aren't you the Executive Editorial Director for Decorating of the Ducks in a Row house? I thought so.
That's how I have my "grown up books" arranged. After teaching in the public schools for almost 10 years, I fear that I have far too many children's books to do this with...but after all, you can never have to many books. Right?
I love the look of organizing books by colour
OOHHH... loving this idea! I might just have to sneak the time to do that!! ;)
I love the look of that much better. I actually have mine done by size.
The shelves are different heights, so I've organized the books the same way so they all fit.
But yours is much prettier!
Very pretty - and I'm in a full-blown, can't sleep nesting mood these days. I just might have to do this!
Thanks alot for sharing this article with us! I believe that
storybooks for kids cost effective and fun for kids and toddlers.
The books look great organized like that!
I love the way you did your books...I just did the same thing in my daughter's room...it makes me so HAPPY everytime I look at her shelf...it's the little things in life.
Amanda
I've always loved the look of books color coordinated. Yours looks great.
Well allbe! It is a gorgeous rainbow of books! I love it!!
I organize mine by theme because that is what I did when I used to teach school. I am used to it now and it works for me, but your color way is much prettier!!
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with issues ;) Eye candy for sure.
Thanks for stopping by!
I think that is awesome. I use to color code my closet, but I have never tried it with books. :)
I love the books organized by color! Fantastic!
This is awesome!
I love this! It's very pretty :)
That looks so pretty by color - I may be doing this today! I also love the Kirsten skirt (craft area's just about done so I should be sewing soon - I hope!)
I do mine by height but I like the look of the color much better! I think I will give that a try.
I really like that, and I saw it on the Martha site today! I may just have to do it too, thanks!
